ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ7)
You may soon see a new ambulance around the area, and it's all about helping the
region's youngest patients.
The neonatal pediatric mobile ICU has special features like a blanket
warmer, medicine refrigerators, and special air lines.
"Different sizes, different needs," Patient Transportation Director
Craig Bryant said of the patients.
"Regardless of what they say, they're not small adults. So they required
special types of medical air concentration."
It's also the first ambulance in the area to have a self-loading stretcher.
Officials say it took about two years to get this special ambulance for babies and kids. The 2018 vehicle comes with a $510K price tag, paid in half with money from the Children's Miracle Network.
